2018 Parts Trainee - 2019 Diesel Technician Apprentice

Three Rivers Machinery is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our Apprenticeship Program commencing in January 2018.

Our program commences with the first year in the Spare Parts Department where the successful applicant will complete a 12 month traineeship and on conclusion of this 12 months becomes a fully qualified Spare Parts Interpreter.

The second to fourth year are in the Service Department where the successful applicant completes a 4 year Heavy Diesel Technician Apprenticeship and on completion of TAFE requirements become fully qualified Agricultural Diesel Technician. 

Parts Interpreter Trainee

The Parts Interpreter Trainee is responsible for interpreting the machinery parts needs of our service department and customers. Your primary task is to ensure that Three Rivers Machinery’s parts service is delivered in an effective and efficient manner.  At Three Rivers Machinery our focus on customer service does not just satisfy our customer's needs, we aim to delight them!

Parts Interpreter Trainees undertake sales, stock control and administration in relation to replacement parts.

The position requires enthusiasm, a focus on customer service, high levels of customer satisfaction, and attention on margin and profit generation for the department. 

The Parts Interpreter Trainee is the point of contact to deal with enquiries from our workshop personnel and customers either via the phone or face to face in regards to machinery spare parts. This position reports to the Parts Manager.

Essential Functions –Parts Interpreter Trainee

The main focus of a Parts Interpreter Trainee is the sale of parts and accessories to internal and external customers.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Providing the highest possible level of customer service to our valued customers and other team members including support to the Spare Parts Manager and senior Spare Parts Interpreters.

  • Assistance in the further development of systems and processes of the business to assist in its growth

  • Point of contact with workshop personnel to ensure timely parts delivery to the department.

  • Point of contact with customers and handle enquires by email and phone in a professional manner

  • Assist with maintaining a balanced inventory consistent with the requirements of the service department, the customer base, and the do-it-yourself public

  • Ensure inventory levels are kept within approved levels

  • Ensure sales are consistent with the company pricing policy

  • Assist in stock order procedures as required

  • Provide best practice technical assistance to customers and employees as required

  • Ensure that all returned or warranty parts are properly tagged so that the dealership recovers full credit from the manufacturer

  • Conforms to policy on the special ordering of parts and parts returns

  • Assist with marketing and advertising campaigns for the department

  • Maintain a well-groomed, professional and business like appearance

Apprentice Diesel Technician

The Apprentice Diesel Technician is responsible for learning the skills for diesel mechanics, hydraulics and electrics relevant to farm machinery, new and used at Three Rivers Machinery. Working in the service department the apprentice will support the senior Diesel Technicians. You will learn the service business from ‘the ground up’ and develop your skills to deal with inquiries on the phone, and face to face with customers and workshop personnel in regards to machinery servicing and repairs. This position reports to the Service Manager.

Essential Functions – Apprentice Diesel Technician

  • Developing a working knowledge of standard practises, methods, tools and materials of the diesel technician trade.

  • Identify workshop & machinery problems

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy

  • Developing problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Use of and care of diagnostic equipment and tools

  • Provide support to senior technicians both within the workshop and in field

  • Research information for technical jobs

  • Develop skills in parts identification

  • Developing high skill levels in hydraulics

  • Developing high skill levels in electrics diagnostics

  • Develop your skills of operating workshop equipment and hand tools.

  • Develop your skills of using specialised diagnostic tools for diesel machinery

  • Maintain and care for all tools and equipment in store

  • Monitor time on jobs

  • Record keeping of time and work carried out

  • Establish and maintain relationships with co-workers

  • Carry out work as directed

  • Work effectively with team members utilising clear communication and respect for fellow staff.

  • Active team as member

  • Attend & contribute to team meetings

  • To comply with relevant WHS procedures

Required Knowledge & Experience for both Roles

  • Higher School Certificate or equivalent, required

  • Minimum of Provisional Driver’s License, required

  • Keyboard skills, required

  • Able to perform business maths (basic algebra, compute rate, ratio etc.), is essential

  • Knowledge of excellent customer service principles and practices is essential

  • Working knowledge of the agricultural machinery industry, preferred

Working Conditions

  • Working conditions are a normal office & workshop environment with some field work

  • Work will require you to wear the supplied uniform (shirts and jackets) and steel capped or industry standard equivalent boots (not supplied)
